Change my name to BEACH

I just emailed another author, whose maiden name was BEACH.  I said to my great computer assistant, “Do you think I should change my name to BEACH?  Please email at: spurr1@msn.com if you think so.  It would be much better placement for me on the book shelves too.

Mandarin Oriental Spa

I thought I was spoiled when I visited one of the best spas in Maui at the Grand Wailea Resort, which is still one of the best spas in the world, but last March and again yesterday I went to the Mandarin Oriental Spa in Boston.  First of all, the staff suggests you sit down and then they take your shoes away on a tray giving you spa flip flops.  What I like most about the Mandarin, other than the staff, is that they have a huge jacuzzi, steam room and rain shower for you to relax an hour before your treatment.  I had a body scrub and I swear my shoulders were several inches lower when I was finished.  So even on the hotest day of the year, I suggest relaxing at the best Spa on the East Coast at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Boston.

Solo Travel Girl Blog

Jennifer who has a great website, Solo Travel Girl just did a great beach interview with me and has an excellent review on Beach Chair Diaries too.  Check it out: http://www.solotravelgirl.com/pack-along-beach-chair-diaries-on-your-next-trip-to-the-beach

Hope everyone had a good weekend.  I finally went swimming twice, although the water is still cold, it was GREAT to be on the beach and swim.  Yippie.  I love Summer.

NPR Dean Buonomano

In my book, Beach Chair Diaries, there’s a character Dean Amano, who was my neighbor and lent me his engine for my blow up boat.  Dean is a real person (fake name) who now some people refer to as Dean Amano.  While on my many road trips, I was listening to NPR recently and they were interviewing and author, Dean Buonomano.  I can’t make this stuff up.  I’m still laughing and called Deam Amano to let him know that his relative was on NPR.  Here’s to great radio.  Happy Summer.

Hot Dogs in Maine

This week went to see a very special client, who just lost her dad.  We spoke about our great memories of our dads and how they both loved hot dogs.  I suggested that she remember the funny times when she gets sad to help her.  On my way home, I passed by many  lobster roll stands to finally sit and have a hot dog.  I usually never have hot dogs, but for some reason that day, I felt this food was perfect.  Here’s to great dads and remembering them through smiles!

A Perfect Summer Day

Yesterday was a perfect summer day.  I started the morning at the beach and starting writing in my journal, when my good friend, Brian, walked by to let me know that the water temperature was perfect.  I put down my journal walked into the water had a nice long swim.  I love floating on my back.  I feel free.  Later, a good friend came to visit, Sally, and we went out boating to see the start of the Marblehead to Halifax Race.  That afternoon Sally and I went Paddle Boarding in Little Harbor, paddling by other friends and ended the day on the top deck of the Dolphin Yacht Club overlooking the harbor.  A perfect summer day.

Anne Lindbergh’s A Gift of the Sea

So last night I did an outside book signing at Basketcase for the 5th annual Ladies Night in Wakefield, RI.  Some of the lovely ladies had bought my book and one woman told me that my writing reminded her of Anne Lindbergh’s book, A Gift of the Sea.  I was speechless. I had her sit down to talk more and found out that she has always wanted to write. She is going on my Christmas Card list.  I’m so blessed to meet these great people.  She made my week and helped me to believe that my words are making a difference.

July 4th Paddle boarding

Yesterday enjoyed an early beach morning by doing yoga, writing and reading my friend Gary Braver’s new book Tunnel Vision, which is excellent.  I went Paddle Boarding in Marblehead.  Finally summer was here, the warm winds touched my shoulders as I paddled around Little Harbor.  At one point, I heard a jet above, only to look up to see four F14 flying high above, circling around and coming over two more times.  By the third time, I had to sit down on the paddle board and thought, well if this isn’t celebrating my freedom, what is?
