Captain Kevin Adams

My good friend Kevin Adams joined the military at age 40 and is back in Marblehead after two tours of duty in Iraq and elsewhere.  He has help protect our country and I’m wicked proud of him.  Kevin is one of the most honest, hardworking men I know and I’m lucky to have him as a friend.  I can’t wait to hear about his adventures.  Here’s to the men in the military.  Thank you.

Swimming

I started saying outloud each morning that it’s going to be a great day and I found that if I say it over and over again, it usually works.  Today, though, I didn’t say it and it was one of those Mondays.  I can’t understand when people are rude on purpose.  It hurts me.  Although, I keep thinking of friends of mine who are going through I really difficult time and I just slap myself back to reality, reality of rude people.  I think I just need to swim and to enjoy summer.  Hopefully this weekend, the water will be warm enough and smiles will remind me that life is good.  And the rude people will forever go away.

Beach Day and Champagne Night

Yesterday a church in Swampscot had their annual beach church, which even has singing while standing in the water.  I wish they had that every week, I would be there.  I love getting a tan while praying.  It was one of the first best beach days and got a chance to read while in the chair, my favorite thing to do.  The water is still only 65 degrees, so I might wait to swim….Yesterday evening was the annual Champagne festival with lots of food and too much champagne, seeing great friends and just enjoying the views of Marblehead harbor.  It was a perfect summer day.

Summer Reading

Last night went to Gary Braver’s book launch for Tunnel Vision.  While Gary was reading, I was reading my copy and could NOT put it down.  If you want an excellent read, get Tunnel Vision.  Later I went to another author’s event with a group of travel writers, which Randy Ross, hosts, called Media Chowder.  Each month we gather, drink and talk about travel and writing.  I perfect evening.  All of these events and the last month has helped me to write more.  I’ve been trying to work on my second book, but now my third book keeps tapping me on the shoulder.  Can’t wait to work more on it this weekend.

Beach Book Award

Just was about to post a blog for the first day of summer, which is of course, one of my favorite days of the year.  While Googling to see what interviews, etc., came up, I found I had an Honorable Mention for Beach Chair Diaries for the 2011 Beach Book Festival.  I had entered the contest about a month ago and hope that this brings more people to the beach and to Beach Chair Diaries.  Thanks again for helping to make over 6200 copies sold.  Happy Summer.

1st Day of Summer

My favorite day of the year is tomorrow, the first day of summer.  I hope that all of you who have a copy of Beach Chair Diaries will take a few moments to relax, read and remember the freedom of summer through my fun essays.  Speaking of ice cream, which is an essay in Beach Chair Diaries, I just saw a USA Today poll which stated that the average American eats 13.9 pounds of ice cream a year.  For me, I think that’s about right!  Happy Summer!

Lake Winnipesaukee

Just spent a very relaxing weekend at my friend Carole and Roger’s cottage on Lock’s Island on Lake Winnipesaukee.  This island is one of the most relaxing places, with no cars, about 80 cottages and my good friends who love to laugh 100 times at the same stupid joke.  I have a tradition of bring a lobster dinner, which we eat out on their enclosed porch, with a 180 view of the lake and mountains beyond.  During one traditional lobster dinner, as we ate, it started raining hard, but we wouldn’t move because the meal was too good.  Although we just had one warm dock day, we relaxed by their fire, watched movies and laughed at stupid jokes.

Cape Cod

Yesterday had a great chance to spend lunch with a great group of sales rep, Girls with Great Lines, on Cape Cod.  Not only was it great to catch up with these great women, but it was a perfect summer day.  In March we had the Cape Cod Gift Show together and formed a lot of wonderful friendships.  Driving home, as I looked out on the beautiful harbors and seashore scenes, I felt very lucky, until of course, I hit traffic coming back through Boston.  But I was listening to Chelsea Handler’s new book, which had me laughing through Bumper to Bumper traffic.

First Day at the BEACH

Today was my first day at the beach this year, could you hear me yell?  I was so excited to pack my beach bag, I already had my beach chair in my car.  As I drove up to the beach, I couldn’t wait to get out and plant myself next to the water. Although, it was windy and there was a cool breeze coming from the north, it was still great to be in the sun beside the small waves.  I did beach yoga, wrote and then took a long walk.  I almost had the beach to myself, except for a few other nuts.  Eventually, the wind got to me and I took my chair up near the parking lot, still the wind wouldn’t let up, but I continued my reading and writing later in my back yard.  This is after I mowed it.  There should be a video of Spurr mowing the back yard.  Maybe in a theatre near you soon.
