During the summer I love to wear blue toe nail polish, which has caused many different reactions. Since I wear mostly blue clothing, my toes match. I’ve actually met some great paddle boarding buddies in Maui because of my blue toes. This past July I was honored to be asked to do two readings at two wonderful weddings. I decided to wear pink toe nail polish, actually named Chapel of Love. This was wild, because after one wedding, one another guest and I were relaxing, we realized that we wore the same color. So today, I finally had my toes painted light blue again and just looking at them makes me feel like I’m looking into the ocean. Happy National Beach Month.

Just did a book signing on the cape at Where the Sidewalk Ends in Chatham, MA. Voted the best bookstore on Cape Cod. I sold a book to a woman who looked just like Jamie Lee Curtis, it wasn’t her, but I signed the book that way. Anyway, I made the Marblehead Reporter, click here to see it. It’s wicked good.

Okay, so one thing that drives me crazy, is when a workman is painting or building a house; why to they have to have their radio on SO LOUD that I can hear it two houses away and on the other side of the street. I finally walked over and couldn’t believe this guy was so completely dumb or maybe he was just deaf. Anyway, I read in the Boston Globe a story of a 25 pound pet tortoise who reappeared four years after escaping from his pen in New Hampshire. The couple who owns Lucy, received a phone call from their neighbor half a mile up the road that Lucy was back. I wondered how long it took her to finally get home. And now time for a joke: this guy finds a slug on his front steps and throws it across the street. Two years later he hears the door bell ring, he opens the door looks around to see the slug, who asks, “What was that for?”

Some moments in time stay with me like Kodak pictures. When my Godson Philip was married last weekend, in Watch Hill, RI, to a wonderful woman, Kate, many moments throughout the weekend were Kodak Moments. The low key elegance of the celebration, along with my great friends Peter and Tricia made for a weekend of fun, tears of happiness and brought us all back to another wedding in 1981, when Peter and Tricia were married. They are a special family of men, which Tricia helps to keep them smiling. I’m still smiling and was so proud to be a part of this lovely summer memory in July.

I finally check off another Bucket List items, to stay at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. This place was built in the late 1800’s, in 93 days. The porch is 660 feet long with 100 white rocking chairs. The elegance, yet comfortable atmosphere is unlike any other place that I’ve ever stayed. It was worth the trip, which was after my good friend Kristin’s wedding to a wonderful man. The wedding was a blast, it was a perfect day and those Michigan people are wicked nice. Although, they do love their desserts.

Today I was with one of my favorite clients who has stores in York, York Village and Ogunquit, Judy, who owns Lazy Daisy, Daisy Trading and Daisy Jane sells my book in her stores and on her website. If you ever get up there, she has great clothes and wicked good fun stuff too. Today she bought 6 copies, making the total amount sold 3100 copies. I’m so excited. Remember to follow your dream, you never know where it might take you, hopefully to Ogunquit or York.

My full time job is selling women’s accessories to stores throughout New England. Last night, I did an annual summer retail sale at the Dolphin Yacht Club. I sold two more of my books, which makes it now a total of 3094 copies sold in two years. One women told me that she was at a wedding, in Marblehead, where someone read parts of my book during the ceremony. I’m so touched. I’m actually speechless, but wondered if the essay that was read was of me falling overboard, or another one.

Finally, the ocean is warm enough to swim in. In the first ten days in July, I swam in two lakes and found them so refreshing, but when I finally swam for 20 minutes in the ocean, I was so happy. Before I dove in, I said, “This is what I live for.” Last night, after a long road trip for business, arrived home, turned on my computer and was about to check emails, when I said, “What a minute.” And dashed off to the beach. The waves were the best, I swam for another 20 minutes, did yoga on the beach and then wrote. I prayed to God that I could spend each day doing this, hopefully, I will.

I’m at my friend’s cottage on Long Pond in Bar Harbor, which is surrounded by National Parks. All you can see from the cottage and dock are trees, mountains and sky. My shoulders relaxed as soon as I drove down the long driveway. Tonight my friend, Diana, took me over to her friend Nan’s cottage by boat. Nan is a 87 year-old character. Her cottage is the only structure on the National Parks area of Long Pond, there is no electricity or running water. I could spend a week on her porch writing, listening to the loons, smelling the pine trees and breathing. We left Nan’s cool cottage by the light of the moon and the silence of Long Pond. The second day of summer is flowing right along with the great blessings of good friends and good times.

I finally swam on Friday at the beach in Marblehead. Swimming makes me so happy. Saturday, my friends Deb and J.T. picked me up on their boat and we soared up to Crane’s Beach in Ipswich. I thought Crane’s Beach was one of the most beautiful from the shore, but by boat, it’s even more incredible. We drank champagne and dug clams and again I swam. This was one of the best summer days I’ve had in my life and Deb and J.T. helped to make it happen. Then Sunday, there was a church who had a service on the BEACH in Swampscot. Not only did I sit in my beach chair, but we sung one of the hymms, Wading in the Water, while standing in the water. This was such a completely cool experience, that it will be a chapter in my next book. Thank you God.
